I'll Always Love You - Taylor Dayne (1988) 8/6/23

For those of you who may not be acquainted with today's Great Song of 1988, "I'll Always Love You" is NOT the Dolly Parton/Whitney Houston song, it's Taylor Dayne's third single release from her debut album, "Tell It to My Heart."

Taylor had burst onto the charts right off the bat with two Top 10 dance songs: the title cut, and "Prove Your Love," both of which we will eventually highlight, but "I'll Always Love You" was proof that Taylor was not just a disco artist...she was also a powerful balladeer.

The song was released in the summer of '88. and climbed to #3 on Billboard's Adult Contemporary Chart, and #2 on the Hot 100.

It also made a solid appearance on the Black Singles Chart at #21. This is especially notable because Taylor was nominated for TWO Grammys for the song: "Best Female R&B Vocal," and "R&B Song of the Year!"

Trivia: The saxophone solo was played by producer Richie Cannata, a long-time member of both The Beach Boys' and Billy Joel's touring bands.

"I'll Always Love You" by Taylor Dayne...expanding her fan base in a big way...with a Great Song of 1988!
