Today's "Great Song from the '70s" comes from an anomaly: the only all-white rock band signed by Motown records to hit the charts. In fact, they were initially so successful, Motown created a record label specifically for them: Rare Earth Records. Rare Earth had 5 Top 20 hits, which was remarkable in a way, since they changed personnel so often. More than 30 people have been a part of the band at one time or another (they're still out there!)--with many members returning and leaving several times. My favorite Rare Earth song was their last Top 10 hit (#7), from 1971:
