I Just Want to Be Your Everything - Andy Gibb (1977) 7/13/22

Some of the Bee Gees' best music during the '70s was created for their kid brother, Andy.

Don't get me wrong, Andy Gibb could sing and acquitted himself quite well vocally, (He did, however, have a problem with his "S's), but virtually all of his songs sounded like the Bee Gees.

And rightfully so, since Barry wrote the songs, and with Robin and Maurice, backed Andy on almost every track.

Andy's first big hit, and a "Great Song of 1977," was "I Just Want to Be Your Everything," which went to #1 in both the US and Canada. It also reached #8 on Billboard's Adult Contemporary Chart, and #19 on the Soul Chart.

That's impressive...but during that time period, NO ONE was hotter than the Bee Gees...and by extension, Andy. He was nominated for TWO Grammys: One for his performance on the song, and one for best new artist.

It's a shame that Andy became a hard core cocaine addict. Was it his fast fame that led to addiction? Was it living under the shadow of his brothers? Was it the breakup with his high profile romance with actress Victoria Principal?(!)

The only thing certain was that his death was officially attributed to myocarditis: inflammation of the heart muscle caused by years of cocaine abuse.

He had turned 30 just two days before his death.

"I Just Want to Be Your Everything:" a "Great Song of 1977" from a talented, but troubled artist: Andy Gibb.
