Once again today, we feature a “Great Song of the '70s” written by Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil!
In the past, we've highlighted their songs “Here You Come Again” by Dolly Parton, “On Broadway” (versions by the Drifters & George Benson), and “Rock & Roll Lullaby” by B.J. Thomas.
Today, it's a song that was first recorded in 1969 by Bobby Vee, then in 1971 by Elvis...but in 1970, between those two releases, B.J. stepped in and took it to #1 on the Adult Contemporary chart and #10 on the Hot 100..Bobby Vee didn't chart with it, and believe it or not, Elvis only charted with it overseas...hitting #3 in Sweden and #6 in the UK and South Africa.
The song? “I Just Can't Help Believing!”
Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil had done it again. (And they'd continue to score “Great Songs” with various artists for years to come!
