Happy Easter, Everyone!
It's a bit hard to believe that Elvis Presley only won 3 Grammy Awards during his lifetime, and all three of them were for Gospel Music.
Not only that, but two of his Grammys were for different recordings of the same song—9 years apart!
In 1967, he won “Best Sacred Performance” for his studio version of “How Great Thou Art.” In 1976, he won for his LIVE version (sung with the Stamps Gospel Quartet)!
I should also note that the album featuring the live version, “Elvis: Recorded Live Onstage in Memphis,” went to #1 on Billboard's Country Album Chart...and was, at one point, in the Top 40 on the list of Top 200 albums for 1976.
Today's “Great Song of the '70s” is a Gospel masterpiece. (It even has “Great in the Title!) It proved that even at this late date in Elvis' life, he could still mesmerize a crowd with his power.
TRIVIA: His other Grammy was for 1972's “He Touched Me,” a song originally written and sung by Gospel legend Bill Gaither.
Again, Happy Easter. Enjoy “How Great Thou Art.” (1976)
