Hot Stuff 1979 (4/10/20)

Was it Disco...or was it Rock? Today's “Great Song of the '70s” was classified as BOTH!

The artist was Disco Queen Donna Summer...and the song had a definite disco beat. HOWEVER, the song also featured a rockin' solo by ex-Doobie Brother and Steely Dan guitarist Jeff “Skunk” Baxter.

I can personally vouch for the fact that it was a HUGE hit in the discos, but on the other hand, Donna won the Grammy for “Best Female ROCK Performance.”

In the end, it doesn't really matter because the song was “HOT STUFF” worldwide! It made the Top 10 in 18 countries...and was especially huge in North America.

In Canada, it went to #1 on the Adult Contemporary, Dance and Top 40 charts...and in the US, It reached #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and Dance charts, while peaking at #3 on the R&B chart.

Rolling Stone Magazine has it listed at #104 on their “Top 500 of all Time.”From 1979 (and the album “Bad Girls”), here's Donna Summer!
