Holdin' On to Yesterday - Ambrosia (1975)

The group Ambrosia appeared on the scene in 1975, with their eponymous debut album...and a single that became a "Great Song" right off the bat.

"Holdin' on to Yesterday" was written by guitarist David Pack and bassist Joe Puerta--one of whom may have been having some emotional issues .

The lyrics are pretty specific about how hard it is to realize your break-up was a mistake, but it's too late to reclaim your relationship. The regret is palpable.

The single reached #16 on Billboard's Hot100--a very respectable debut, and the album as a whole was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Engineered Recording (Other Than Classical). Trivia: The engineer was Alan Parsons.
