Hi-De-Ho (1970) 6/12/20

Blood, Sweat and Tears had their biggest hits in 1968 and 1969, but they also had a “Great Song” in 1970.

Along with Chicago, The Ides of March, Chase and Canada's Lighthouse, Blood, Sweat and Tears was a leader in the brass-based jazz-rock movement of the day--with songs like “Spinning Wheel,” “And When I Die,” “You've Made Me So Very Happy,” and today's pick: “Hi-De-Ho!”

In 1968, Carole King wrote the song with her ex-husband Gerry Goffin, and in 1970, BS&T released it as a single off their third album. It reached #14 on Billboard's Hot 100 in August, and it turned out be be their last Top 15 song.

As I've said before, chart position does not always reflect the quality of a song, and I believe this is a case in point. For jazz-rock fans, 'Hi-De-Ho' is definitely a “Great Song of the '70s!
