Yesterday, we highlighted a song ("Don't Do Me Like That" by Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers) that was released in December of 1979 and moved into the Top 10 in early 1980.
Today, we're jumping back exactly 10 years to a song that was released in December of 1969, and peaked at #2 on the Hot 100 in early 1970.
And what a difference in musical styles a decade can make!
Eddie Holman's "Hey There, Lonely Girl" was a falsetto ballad that might be almost forgotten today, but was all over the radio back then.
The song itself was a gender-switch remake of a 1963 "Ruby & The Romantics song, "Hey There Lonely Boy," which was a #5 hit on Billboard's Middle-of-the Road Chart.
Eddie's falsetto really set his version apart...but he ended up being a one-hit wonder. Still, for its time (1969-70), and its #2 chart position, "Hey There Lonely Girl" is actually a "Great Song!"
