Help Me! (1974) 5/27/20

Let's play Jeopardy! Today's topic: “Great Songs of the '70s!” I'll give you the answer, and you give me the question.

The answer: This Canadian singer/songwriter is a member of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, was called one of the “Greatest Songwriters of All Time” by Rolling Stone Magazine, and has won 9 Grammy Awards as well as 3 Juno Awards (Canada's Grammy)...but only has TWO Top 10 records to show for it.

The question: Who is Joni Mitchell?

Actually, between 1969 and 2016, Joni was nominated for a whopping 16 Grammys and 11 Junos. In 1981, she was awarded a spot in the Juno Hall of Fame, and in 2002, she was given the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.

So what were her two hits?

In 1969, “Both Sides Now” went to #6 in Canada and #8 in the US.But since this blog is called “:Great Songs of the '70s,” we're highlighting her 1974 hit, “Help Me,” which went to #1 on Billboard's Adult Contemporary Chart in the US, and #4 on the matching chart in Canada. On the Top 40, it was #7 in the US and #6 in Canada.

“Help Me:” Great Singer. Great Songwriter. “Great Song of 1974.”

And just because--here's “Both Sides Now:”
