Help is on its Way - Little River Band (1977) 1/11/22

If you've been following my blog for any length of time, you've probably noticed that every so often I'll mention how well a "Great Song" from the US charted in Australia. Of course, during the rock era, the reverse is also true. Dozens of Aussie-based songs have made a huge dent on the American Charts. Today, we're highlighting an Australian "Great Song" that won some prestigious awards and crossed the Pacific to reach #14 on Billboard's Hot 100.

In 1977, The Little River Band released their album, "Diamantina Cocktail," and the lead single, "Help is On Its Way" not only reached #1 down under, but was named "Record of the Year" at the Australian King of Pop Awards...and "Top 40 Record of the Year" at the Australian Record Awards. And rightfully so! Cashbox Magazine described it as a "tight vocal blend with bright guitar melodies and a strong sense of the dramatic." "Help is On Its Way" by The Little River Band is "Great Song of '77," regardless of geography. :-)
