“Great Songs of the '70s” Special Edition.
I am posting eulogies all too often these days. Today, John Prine passed away at the age of 73, a victim of the Corona Virus. His comprehensive obituary is here—and I will let it speak for itself: https://variety.com/…/john-prine-dead-dies-singer-coronavi…/
Suffice it to say that John was a legend in folk music—and a songwriter's songwriter. So much so, he was inducted into the Songwriter's Hall of Fame in 2019. He was also a Grammy Award winner.
He burst (quietly) onto the scene in 1971 with his self-titled debut album, and I am choosing my favorite song from that LP to pay tribute to him.
Personal note: I am a part time Lyft driver. In 2017, John stopped in Eau Claire to be a part of Justin Vernon (Bon Iver) & Company's Eaux Claires Music Festival, and by luck of the draw, I was called to take John and his family to his hotel. He was friendly, but rather quiet. In fact, his wife Fiona did most of the talking, and I also met his sons Tommy and Jack. It was an honor and a privilege to have them in my car, and I will never forget the experience.
Rest in Peace, John Prine.
