Here's something you almost never heard in the '80s: a Great Rock & Roll "Apology" Song.
After all, it was totally uncool or a rock star to apologize to his girl for being a jerk.
But in 982, the Supergroup Asia had a worldwide hit with a "Heat of the Moment," which was one long lyric apology.
Asia featured John Wetton from King Crimson, Steve Howe from Yes, Carl Palmer from Emerson, Lake & Palmer, and Geoff Downes from the Buggles.
John & Geoff co-wrote the song, but John wrote all the lyrics with his girlfriend Jill in mind. (They would later marry, but divorce after 10 years.)
John also had singer/songwriter/legend Joni Mitchell in mind--and tried to emulate her "first person" emotive style."
When "Heat of the Moment" was released as a single from Asia's debut album, it charted in 15 countries, including the US, where it hit #1 on the Mainstream Rock Chart and #4 on The Hot 100. It was also a Top 10 hit in Canada, South Africa, Switzerland and Poland.
Fun Fact: "Heat of the Moment" started out as a country song, but after some major tinkering, it became a progressive rocker--quite a transformation!
"Heat of the Moment" by Asia: A Great Song of 1982, with no apologies necessary. :-)
Tomorrow: Meow.
