The Marshall Tucker Band was known for its incredible ability to mix rock & roll with blues, country and jazz--and in 1977, they put it all together and scored their biggest hit: "Heard It in a Love Song!"
One of the reasons it was a "Great Song of the '70s" was the fantastic flute playing of group member Jerry Eubanks. Another was the fact that guitarist Toy Cardwell, who wrote the song, couldn't read music and played by ear--brilliantly. Yet another reason: The band made a sad song sound upbeat and happy!
