Seals and Crofts released a number of "Great Songs" during the '70s, but even though they had several top 10 hits, they never reached #1...at least not in the US.
They did, however, take several of their songs to #2...including the title track from their 1976 album, "Get Closer." This soft rock classic went to #2 on the Easy Listening Chart, as well as #6 on the Hot 100. In Canada, they made it all the way to to #1 on the Adult Contemporary Chart.
"Get Closer" was enhanced by some stellar vocals from Carolyn Willis, a former member of the group Honey Cone, who had a hit with "Want Ads" in 1971. (We highlighted "Want Ads" back on 4/12/21. Check the link below!)
All things considered, the single should be credited to Seals, Crofts and Willis...but it's a minor quibble. "Get Closer" is a "Great Song of '76."
