Today is another “Double Play Day:” Two songs for the price of one. And as always, there's a good reason! Be sure to click BOTH song links below!
When Foreigner released their debut album (“Foreigner”) in 1977, the first single, “Feels Like the First Time,” made the Top 10 in both the US (#4) and Canada (#7). In 2000s, it was featured in the films, “Anchorman” (2004) and “Pitch Perfect.” (2012)
Some rock critics consider it to be Foreigner's best song--but others, while agreeing the song is “great,” think the original “B” Side is even better!
In fact, many critics believe the opening piano on “Cold as Ice” is one of the most iconic rock riffs of all time! Thank goodness the record company (Atlantic) re-released it as an “A” side!
Chartwise, it virtually matched “Feels Like the First Time:” #6 in the US and #9 in Canada. It's been featured in “Stranger Things,” “Rock Band 3,” and in a film short featured on SNL.
No matter how you look at it—or which song you think is better—making your debut with TWO “Great Songs of the '70s” is quite an accomplishment!
