In 1995, Match.com became the very first online dating app, but long before that, in1977, a group called The Floaters created the very first--and possibly only--personal musical dating app.
Sort of.
The song, "Float On," was basically a dating resume for the members of the group. Over a romantic background, each member stated their names, astrological signs, and a description of their ideal woman. Then, each of them sang a personal chorus.
Well, in one way, it certainly worked: "Float On" made it all the way to #1 on Billboard's R&B/Hip Hop Chart, and #2 on the Hot 100!
On the other hand, The Floaters never had another Top 25 hit on any chart.
Could it be they all found their matches, and gave up their recording careers for wedded bliss?
Probably not.
I"Float On" by The Floaters was certainly ahead of its time, and a "Great Song of 1977!" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=91E4aSMEpkQ
