Feels So Good (1978) 6/20/20

Updated: Jun 22, 2020

Some people know Chuck Mangione from the animated series “King of the Hill,” on which he played himself. But anyone who was listening to the radio in 1977-78, knows Chuck from his hit single, “Feels So Good,” on which he played the fluegelhorn.

The smooth, jazzy instrumental came from the album of the same name, but had to be cut down from its original length of 9:43 to 3:28 for the single—a process he described as “major surgery.'

In 1978, the album peaked at #2 on Billboard's Album chart, kept out of the #1 slot by the “Saturday Night Fever” soundtrack.

The single made it to #1 on Billboard's Adult Contemporary chart, and #4 on the Hot 100. In Canada, it was #1 on the Adult Contemporary Chart and #5 on the Top 40.
