Feelin' Stronger Every Day - Chicago (1973) 11/12/21

In 1972, Peter Cetera of Chicago was going through a nasty divorce.

As you might expect, he was having a tough time coping with it...but the show must go on...so off he went on tour with the group.

One night, while waiting out a rain delay before a concert in Akron, Ohio, he heard composer/trombonist Jim Pankow playing the beginning of today's "Great Song of the '70s" on his horn.

When Peter asked him what he was playing, Jim said he was just messing around.

Peter then grabbed his bass, and together they started working on "Feelin' Stronger Every Day."

Using the pain from his divorce, Peter's lyrical creativity was released...and when Chicago ended their tour, he and Jim sat down and finished the song--just in time to add it to Chicago's next album: "Chicago VI."

Peter sang lead, and fellow band members were impressed--especially with the strength of his vocals. They felt that after all Peter had been through, he truly WAS "Feelin' Stronger Every Day!"

When the song was released as a single in 1973...fans and radio listeners were impressed by the way the song slowly got stronger from beginning to end.

Chartwise, it reached #10 on Billboard's Hot 100 and #12 on Canada's Top 40.
