Most of the time, a major recording artist will release an album, and then a single or two...or three.
1974 a bit different for Roberta Flack. Her "Great Song of of 1974" was released 9 MONTHS before the album of the same name.
And in that span of 9 months, big things happened to "Feel Like Makin' Love."
First of all, it topped THREE Billboard Charts: The Hot `100 (1 week), Adult Contemporary (2 weeks) and the Soul Chart (5 weeks)! It also reached #1 in Canada...and #10 in France.
Then, it was nominated for THREE Grammy Awards: "Song of the Year," Record of the Year," and "Best Female Pop Performance.
There was a reason for all this: "Feel Like Makin' Love" is a song much like Roberta herself: sophisticated, cool and classy.
Trivia: Once the album was finally released, the producer was listed as Rubina Flake--which proved that in addition to her exceptional singing talent, she had an endearing goofy streak.
