Family of Man - Three Dog Night (1972) 3/29/22

When compiling a list of "Great Songs" by Three Dog Night, today's choice might not immediately come to mind...but it should definitely be on the list.

1972's "Family of Man" was co-written by prolific songwriter Paul Williams, who had already composed the group's "Out in the Country" and "Old Fashioned Love Song." We've already highlighted both of those songs, and I've provided links to those posts below.

Note: Paul also wrote hits for the likes of Barbra Streisand ("Evergreen"), The Carpenters ("We've Only Just Begun"), and Kermit the Frog ("Rainbow Connection").

In many of their songs, Three Dog Night would rotate lead vocals, and "Family of Man" was a prime example.

The first verse was sung by Danny Hutton, the second by Chuck Negron and the third by Cory Wells.

Like "Out in the Country," "Family of Man" was one of the earliest hits that carried an ecological warning--and it's still relevant today.

In 1972, the song reached #5 in Canada and #12 in the US.

All in all, "Family of Man" may not be one of Three Dog Night's biggest hits, but it's a "Great Song" nonetheless!
