HHere is the perfect definition of "one-hit wonder" frustration:
Having a song that stays on the charts for 28 weeks--more than 6 full months--without ever cracking the Top 10.
In the case of today's "Great Song of 1978," "Falling" by LeBlanc and Carr, it means stalling at #11 on Billboard's Adult Contemporary Chart, The Cashbox Top 100, and Canada's Top 40. For the record, they also reached #13 on Billboard's Hot 100."
That had to hurt--just a bit.
"Falling" was a love song that was released as a single at lyrically the perfect time of year to become a hit: Late October of 1977, and hung around like a huge snowdrift until it melted away when the Spring of '78 arrived. (Listen and you'll hear what I mean!)
Lenny LeBlanc and Pete Carr were a duet in the mold of Seals & Crofts and/or England Dan and John Ford Coley, but unfortunately, outside of "Falling," they could never find a recipe for continued success.
They were, however, able to write "Sharing the Night Together," which became a "Great Song of 1979" for Dr. Hook.
So there's that,
But back to "Falling:" Any song that can stay on the charts for 6 months makes it a "Great Song" in my book. Enjoy! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qNxZ201XXkw
