We all remember Cuba Gooding, Jr. as the actor who played Rod Tidwell in the 1996 film “Jerry McGuire.” Not only did he shout the legendary line, “SHOW ME THE MONEY,” he won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor.
But he wasn't the first person in his family who won high praise and kudos! His father, Cuba Gooding, Sr., was the lead singer of the group, The Main Ingredient—who sang today's “Great Song of the '70s!
“Everybody Plays the Fool” was a BIG hit in 1972, reaching #2 on Billboard's Rhythm & Blues Chart and #3 on the Hot 100. In Canada, it reached #6 on the Top 40. It was also nominated for the “Best R &B Grammy.”
Obviously, talent runs deep in the Gooding family. It also runs deep in the Neville family.
Aaron Neville, the most famous of the Neville Brothers, recorded a cover version of “Everybody Plays the Fool” in 1991 that spent 20 weeks on Billboard's Hot 100, peaking at #8.
I can hear it now: HEY MIKE! SHOW ME THE VIDEOS! :-)
