How do you take a "Great Song" of the '70s" and make it even "Greater?"
If you're Robert Palmer, you take your very first hit record, wait 14 years, remix and re-release it.
In 1978, Robert's Caribbean-flavored song "Every Kinda People" (from his "Double Fun" album), reached #16 on Billboard's Hot 100. It was a very respectable chart debut.
Then, in 1992, after a string of "Great Songs of the '80s," (which we will no doubt highlight once we begin tackling the decade on June 1st), Robert remixed the song with more of a "Marvin Gaye" vibe.
This time, "Every Kinda People" did even better, peaking at #8 on Billboard's Adult Contemporary Chart!
Perhaps--in this case--we could "remix" an age-old axiom and say, " If at first you succeed, try again and succeed even more!
"Every Kinda People" by Robert Palmer: a "Great Song of 1978 and 1992!"
Tomorrow: Anita's Bell
