Here's how a Broadway actress who starred in "Hair" and "The Rocky Horror Show" became a one-hit wonder with a "Great Song of the '70s:"
In 1970, a group named The Goggles released a single called "Don't Say You Don't Remember." It was quickly forgotten.
However, In early 1972, Beverly Bremers remembered it, and released a version that made it all the way to #2 on Billboard's "Bubbling Under" Chart. In other words, #102 on the Hot 100.
It was almost forgotten again...but a number of radio stations in California DIDN'T forget, and kept playing the song. At the end of the year, based on growing popularity with radio listeners and record buyers in the Golden State, the single was re-issued by Scepter Records. That turned out to be a great idea, because THIS time, the song took off in several countries.
The song was a Top 5 hit in France...and as 1971 melted into 1972, it also reached #5 on Billboard's Adult Contemporary Chart, as well as #15 on the Hot 100.
Keep in mind those Billboard chart positions would have been higher if, by the time the rest of the US started to fall in love with the song, it had already peaked months previously in California..
Beverly Bremers was a one-hit wonder, but her one hit was certainly a "Great Song of the '70s!" "Don't Say You Don't Remember:"
