Don't Pull Your Love - Hamilton, Joe Frank & Reynolds (1971) 3/13/21

In 1971, three guys with four names hit the charts with today's "Great Song of the '70s!"

Just who WERE Hamilton, Joe Frank, and Reynolds?

Well, from 1965-67, Dan Hamilton, Joe Frank Corollo, and Tommy Reynolds were part of a group called the T-Bones--the folks who brought us the hit version of the Alka Seltzer jingle, "No Matter What Shape (Your Stomach is In)." (#3 on the Hot 100.)

But the truth is, none of them actually played on the record... which, in reality, was recorded by the legendary group of session musicians known as The Wrecking Crew.

"No Matter What Shape" was so popular, Liberty Records wanted the group to tour, but The Wrecking Crew was so busy with studio work, none of them could swing it.

At that point, producer/musician Judd Hamilton was asked to put together a touring group. In short order, he hired his brother Dan, Joe Frank and Reynolds (along with a few others) and together, they hit the road for about two years..

Skip to 1971. The T-Bones were history...but (Dan) Hamilton, Joe Frank and Reynolds remained as a trio. With their talents and, more importantly, their connections in the business, they were able to score a recording contract with Dunhill Records and their first single release was a HUGE success.

"Don't Pull Your Love" sold more than a million copies, and went to #4 in the US on Billboard's Hot 100 and Adult Contemporary Charts. In Canada, it went to #1 on their Top 40!

The song is still popular on oldies stations in both countries, and people still enjoy this "Great Song of the '70s," no matter what shape their stomachs are in. See what I did there?
