Guys, have you ever loved someone who just wanted to be friends? Did they try to keep the friendship going, completely oblivious to the pain and heartache that was ripping you apart?
Well, today's Great Song of 1973 is just for you!
Kent Lavoie, AKA "Lobo" (Spanish for wolf, if you're wondering), must have "been there" at least once, because "Don't Expect Me to Be Your Friend" was emotionally spot-on, (Don't try to deny it, guys. You're only fooling yourselves!) :-)
But seriously, the song certainly hit home for many guys, since the song went to #1 on Billboard's Adult Contemporary Chart in early '73, as well as #8 on the Hot 100. It also hit home outside the US, reaching #4 in Canada, Australia and New Zealand."
Of course, it's possible that women helped make the song a hit. After all, Lobo was a good-looking guy with a mysterious name...and perhaps they felt they could offer him a (or any other guy with a broken heart) a better relationship.
Obviously, I'm being a bit facetious here...but "Don't Expect Me to be Your Friend" was still spot-on...and a "Great Song of 1973!
