Hit #7 in my series of daily posts highlighting what I think were not only great songs from the 70s...but songs people may have never heard---or have forgotten. Today, we follow Billy Joel's "stick it to the record company" hit...with another along the same line. In 1970, Sugarloaf had a #3 hit with "Green-Eyed Lady," a great song in itself. But shortly after its chart run, Liberty Records folded, and Sugarloaf had one heck of a time trying to find a new label. CBS Records turned them down, but then, in 1975, Polydor finally picked them up.In HIS "stick it to 'em" moment, lead singer Jerry Corbetta wrote this song that went to #9 on the charts. The touch tones you hear in the song were actually the unlisted phone number of CBS Records in New York.Revenge is sweet! Trivia: Note the riffs on the Beatles and Stevie Wonder.
