Don't Bring Me Down 1/29/20

"It's a great big ball of distortion." That''s how Jeff Lynne described Today's "Great Song of the '70s!"

It was the final track on ELO's 1979 album, "Discovery," and Lynne included it because he felt there weren't enough "loud ones" on the LP.

Smart move.

"Don't Bring Me Down" was a top 10 hit in 13 countries..including #1 in Canada and #4 on the Hot 100--their highest-charting song in the U.S.

So what's with Jeff shouting the name "Bruce" several times during the song? He says he was actually shouting "Grooss," which he thought he made up, but in reality is some sort of a "Germanic Greeting."

However, ELO's recording engineer Reinhold Mack says Jeff was indeed shouting "Bruce." --as a joke about Australian men named Bruce. Yeah, I don't get it, either.

Which story is true? Tough to say, since Jeff has been known to use BOTH words in concert.

Listen closely and see what you think!
