Dizzy/Jam Up - Tommy Roe (1969-70) 7/16/22

It's been awhile since we unwrapped a piece of bubblegum, and that's the only warning you're going to get. LOL.

Those of a certain age remember when bubblegum dominated the charts: (1967-71).

Over the past 3 years, we've highlighted quite a few bubblegum artists, from Bobby Sherman to The Archies, but today, I want to highlight one of the masters of the genre: Tommy Roe.

Tommy, with his songwriting partner Freddie Weller and the legendary Wrecking Crew session musicians, were responsible for two bubblegum classics.

In 1969, their song "Dizzy," was a chart topper in the US, Canada and the UK.

In 1970, they followed up with "Jam Up and Jelly Tight." In itself, the song was ridiculous...but as with most bubblegum hits, it was EXTREMELY catchy. Teens and pre-teens bought it by the millions, sending it to #8 in the US, and #5 in Canada and Australia.

*Note: In addition to being a talented singer, songwriter, and solo artist, Freddie Weller was a member of Paul Revere and the Raiders for several years.
