Before we get started today, there are three questions that beg to be asked:
#1: Who leaves their diary underneath a tree?
#2: What are the odds that David Gates would find it?
#3: Why would he read it? The answers: It doesn't really matter if you can turn it into a "Great Song of 1972" True, the premise of "Diary" by Bread is rather shaky, but the song itself is gorgeous, and the surprise ending grabs you--at least the first time you time you hear it. On the charts: #3 on Billboard's Easy Listening Chart and #11 on both the Billboard and Cashbox Hot 100. In Canada, it reached #12 on the Top 40. One final question: Do you believe "Diary" by Bread is a "Great Song of 1972" I do...and it's my blog. So there! :-) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rO3Gk_d6tt4
