Daytime Friends - Kenny Rogers 1978 (1/27/23)

You never know where the inspiration for a "Great Song" might come from. Today's example has got to be one of the strangest, and funniest!

In 1975, songwriter Ben Peters was watching the news on WSM-TV in Nashville, when the weatherman started talking about "daytime trends and nighttime showers."

And that led Ben to write "Daytime Friends and Nighttime Lovers," which turned out to be Kenny Rogers' immediate follow-up to "Lucille" and one of his biggest hits!

By the way, that weatherman was Pat Sajak!

In 1977, Kenny took the song--about two cheating people who are friends during the day but have an extramarital affair at night--right to #1 on the Country Charts in the US and Canada! Up North, it also hit #1 on on the Adult Contemporary Chart, while peaking at #13 on Billboard's matching chart in the US.

"Daytime Friends" by Kenny Rogers: a "Great Song of 1977," thanks to songwriter Ben Peters, with a nod and a spin of the wheel to Pat Sajak. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L7uvZ7sBPaw
