Day After Day - Badfinger (1972) 4/3/21

Most of the time, making a hit record is a group effort. Literally.

That's certainly true with today's "Great Song of 1972," but it's ALSO true that a trio of legends joined the group to get it done. Pete Ham of Badfinger wrote "Day After Day," and while the rest of the guys in the band, Tom Evans, Mike Gibbons and Joey Molland, all did their parts, they called in George Harrison to play the slide guitar and session musician extraordinaire Leon Russell to play keyboards. George also produced the record. Well, MOST of it, anyway. Before the song (and its album, "Straight Up") were done, he left to put together his Concert for Bangladesh--but no worries, Todd Rundgren was called in to finish up! With all that talent behind "Day After Day," it couldn't miss...and it didn't! In Canada, it went to #2 on the Top 40 chart, and in the US, it peaked at #4 on Billboard's Hot 100 and #10 on the Easy Listening Chart. It was also a Top 10 record in the UK, Australia and New Zealand. "Day After Day" by Badfinger, with George, Leon and Todd: A "Great Song of 1972!"
