Dancing Machine - The Jacksons (1974) 10/26/21

In February of 1974, The Jacksons released their 9th studio album, "Dancing Machine," and the title cut easily became a "Great Song of the '70s."

It was fun, danceable, and the lead vocals from Michael and Jermaine were outstanding.

The song was a chart-topper on Billboard's Soul chart...and it reached #2 on the Top 40 in both the US and Canada. It sold more than 3 million copies and was even nominated for a Grammy Award: "Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals."

But there was one more thing that made the song Great, and that was the dance that came with it.

When the Jacksons performed the song on TV's "Soul Train," Michael dazzled everyone with a flawless performance of the difficult robot dance (See the footage below).

After that, it became a staple on dance floors everywhere--usually with unintentionally comedic results. :-)
