Schmaltz alert!
Does anyone other than me remember Jud Strunk?
He was a part-time actor, who spent some time in the cast of "Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In."
He was also a singer/songwriter who was known by his fans as the "Jimmy Buffet of Maine," because his light "New England style of style of story-telling music was similar in tone (but certainly not style) to Jimmy's tropical-style stories.
Jud was a one-hit wonder...and the song was about as schmaltzy as they come.
And yet, as I get older, the more I feel "Daisy a Day" is a "Great Song" of 1973."
Most likely, it's because people my age can relate to it more and more with each passing year.
It obviously appealed to a certain audience back in '73 as well, because "Daisy
a Day" was a worldwide Adult Contemporary hit: #1 in Australia and Ireland, #3 in Canada, and #4 in New Zealand and the US. It also reached #14 on Billboard's Hot 100.
Note: There's an extra level of poignancy when you discover that Jud died young at age 48, after suffering a heart attack while flying a small plane.
"Daisy a Day" by Jud Strunk a "Great (Schmaltzy) Song of 1973."
