Sometimes when I'm researching a "Great Song," I run into a brick wall.
Such is the case with almost every song I try to highlight by Jefferson Starship. And so it is with 1978's "Count On Me." Here's what little I can pass along: 1: It's a country-flavored love song written by Jesse Barish, and was the first release from the album, "Earth." 2: Cashbox Magazine's review gave it some faint praise: "Good "piano licks, a moderate beat, a solid acoustic guitar solo, and Marty Balin’s familiar and distinctive vocals. 3: Grace Slick was still with the group and sang some background vocals. 4: Chart Positions. Canada: #6 Adult Contemporary, #8 Top 40. US: #8 Hot 100, #15 AC. That's pretty much it. But still, even without a lot of trivia to back it up, one listen to "Count On Me" and it's easy to conclude that it's a "Great Song of 1978."
