You may not know the name, but over the years, Denny Laine was a member of l two iconic bands. He was a founding member of The Moody Blues, and a part of Paul McCartney & Wings for decades. Denny has passed away at the age of 79. Here is a short obituary from The National Post:
Over the past 3+ years, we've highlighted all of the Great '70s hits by the Moody Blues, as well as the vast majority of Wings' Great Songs.
There was one song from the '70s that I hadn't gotten to yet, and it's another Great one!
"Coming Up" was originally intended for Wings' 1979 album, "Back to the Egg," but Paul pulled it from the list, and released it as a stand-alone single--after he added lyrics to the odd-but-catchy combination of instrumental styles that could only be described as "Flamenco-Disco."
As always, Paul was front and center on the song, with some added vocal touches by Linda...and some sweet guitar parts by Denny and Laurence Juber. Steve Holley added percussion.
The song charted in 13 countries, and reached #5 in the US on Billboard's Hot 100. In Canada, it was an even bigger hit: #1 on the Adult Contemporary Chart, and #2 on the Top 40.
