The year 1974 brought a first to the Hot 100: The first Native American Band to reach the Top 5!
Redbone did it with a song that not only became a "Great Song of the '70s," but is still played on Oldies and Classic Rock radio stations (and by just about every garage band out there)!
The original demo of "Come and Get Your Love" was called "Hail," which, of course, is the first word of the song--but by the time the song appeared on Redbone's "Wovoka" in 1973, the name had been changed to reflect the catchy chorus.
When "Come and get Your Love" was released as a single in January of '74, it spent 18 weeks in the Top 40, peaking at #5 on the nose!
Redbone would frequently perform the song dressed in Native American regalia, which added an extra air of authenticity to an already authentic band. (See the special link below!)
In recent years, the song has become a part of the Marvel universe, appearing in the films, "Guardians of the Galaxy" and "Avengers: Endgame."
It's currently being used in a national TV ad for Applebees!
"Come and Get Your Love" by Redbone: unique in so many ways, and a "Great Song of the '70's" (as well as today!)
