Celebration - Kool &The Gang (1981) 12/31/23

There's no better song to ring in a New Year than today's Great Song of the '80s: a song that Record World Magazine called "One Big Party Hook!"

1981's "Celebration" by Kool & the Gang was actually inspired by a passage in the Quran.

Group co-founder and saxophonist Ronald Bell was reading the section where God was creating Adam and the Angels were celebrating.

Of course, Ronald took it in a secular direction, but with an altruistic call for "everyone around the world" to join together to celebrate the good times.

The song actually SOUNDS like there "a party going on," with a perfect danceable beat, sound effects, and shouts of "Yahoo" throughout!

"Celebration" was a bona fide worldwide hit, charting in 13 countries, including the US, where it was a triple chart topper: #1 on Billboard's Hot 100, Soul. and Dance Club charts.

It was Kool & The Gang's biggest hit, and over the years, "Celebration" has garnered some impressive "Great Song" credentials: In 2016, it was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame, and in 2021, the Library of Congress added it to the National Recording Registry for being "culturally, historically or aesthetically significant"

Fun Fact: The song is prominently featured in Hallmark's 2023 movie "Rescuing Christmas," co-starring Eau Claire's own Patrick Thomas O'Brien!"

Happy New Year! Enjoy the "Celebration:" a Great Party Song of 1981 (and all time) by Kool & The Gang!

Tomorrow: Dreaming of a new beginning.
