Can't Get Enough - Bad Company (1974) 4/5/21

In the Mid-70s, the English supergroup Bad Company had a handful of hit records, but none was bigger than their very first: today's "Great Song of 1974."

"Can't Get Enough" was the first single off their debut album: a mid-tempo rocker that group songwriter/guitarist Mick Ralphs claims didn't sound right until he tuned his guitar to the the "Open C" configuration." (For non-guitar players, that means the strings were tuned to a "C" chord.)

Whether or not that was the reason "Can't Get Enough" ended up being a hit is debatable--after all, Paul Rodgers' vocals, the blues riff and the walking bassline are pretty darn cool, too.

But why quibble? The song was--and still is--fantastic! In 1974, radio listeners and record buyers "couldn't get enough," sending it to #5 on Billboard's Hot 100...and #3 on Canada's Top 40.

"Can't Get Enough:" The first--and biggest--hit from Bad Company, and a "Great Song of 1974!"
