Breakaway - Art Garfunkel (1975) 9/28/21

Today, we're highlighting a "Great Song" you may have forgotten, but features some amazing harmonies by a quartet of legendary singers: Art Garfunkel, David Crosby, Graham Nash and Toni Tennille! In early 1976, "Breakaway" went to #1 on Billboard's Adult Contemporary Chart. In Canada, it reached #2, and was kept out of the top spot by (get this!) Paul Simon's "50 Ways to Leave Your Lover." Not sure if that qualifies as irony, but that had to sting a bit. Nevertheless, you can't beat those harmonies! :-) Note: The "B" side of the single--which didn't chart--was a cover of the Beach Boys' song "Disney Girls (1957)," which was written and originally sung by Bruce Johnston. In fact, Bruce still sings it in concert today. I've added a link to the song below--because Art more than did the song justice--and I'm always trying to find a way to sneak the Beach Boys into my blog entries. :-) "Breakaway" by Art Garfunkel (and friends): a "Great Song of 1976!"
