It was a rainy day in England, and over at George Harrison's house, he was dealing with a leaky roof. He was frustrated and feeling inadequate because he didn't have the resources or skills to fix it.
But then, in a moment of clarity, he realized that instead of surrendering to the problem, he should be more optimistic.
And with that, he sat down and wrote "Blow Away," today's "Great Song of 1979!"
At first, he thought the song was a little too obvious, but as he recorded it, the song grew on him--to the point that he added it to his next album ("George Harrison") and released it as single. (He also made a video that's full of endearing silliness.)
Fans and radio listeners fell in love with it--sending it to #2 on Billboard's Adult Contemporary Chart and #16 on the Hot 100. In Canada, it reached #7 AC while matching the #16 on the Top 40.
"Blow Away" by George Harrison: optimistic, a little bit silly, and a "Great Song of 1979!"
