Better Love Next Time - Dr. Hook (1979) 1/14/22

As the '70s came to a close, Dr. Hook and the Medicine Show was able to squeeze in one last "Great Song" before the new decade began.

"Better Love Next Time" was a "so-obvious-it's-clever" take on the phrase "Better Luck Next Time," with the singer reassuring a broken-hearted friend that a "better love" awaits in the future. Simple concept, nicely done!

In October of '79, the song was released as the first single from Dr. Hook's album "Sometimes You Win," and crossing into 1980, it reached the Top 10 on the Adult Contemporary Charts in both Canada (#10) and the US (#3). It also reached #12 on Billboard's Hot 100.
