Best of My Love (1977) 2/16/20

Updated: Feb 23, 2020

The award for "Best Earth, Wind & Fire song NOT recorded by Earth, Wind & Fire" goes to:

"Best of My Love" by the Emotions!

The song was written by the late Maurice White of Earth, Wind and Fire, along with band mate Al McKay. It was the lead single from the Emotions' album "Rejoice," and it pulled off the rare feat of hitting #1 on Billboard's Hot 100 for 3 weeks, dropping to #3 for a week, then going back to #1 for one last week during August and September of 1977.

It also went to #1 on Billboard's Soul Chart and #11 on the Dance Chart...as well as #4 in the U.K. and #5 in Canada!

The accolades were many: "Best of My Love" won a 1977 Grammy for "Best R&B Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocals," and the American Music Award for "Favorite Soul R&B Single!"

And there's more!

It's listed at #87 on Billboard's "Hot 100 of All-Time," as well as #10 on Billboard's "Greatest Girl Group Songs of all time!"

Plus, it's easy to dance to... filling the floor whenever I played it at the disco! (Hitting #11 on the Dance Chart was no fluke!)

There's no doubt that "Best of My Love" is one of the Great (Best) Songs of the '70s!"
