Welcome to 2020! I'm starting the new year by cheating a little.
Today's song SHOULD have been a "Great Song of the '60s," but it didn't chart until 1971. Robert Lamm wrote "Beginnings" for Chicago's first album, (1969's "Chicago Transit Authority"), and it was the second single release after "Question 67 & 68." Unfortunately, It didn't even crack the Top 100.
Two years later, backed by a great new B-side ("Color My World"), "Beginnings" was re-released and shot to #1 on the U.S. Adult Contemporary chart...as well as #7 on the Top 40. In Canada, the song went to #8.
You don't hear this song much anymore ...but you SHOULD. It's a "Great Song of the '70s:" and the perfect way to start the new year!
(NOTE: I'll be featuring "Color My World" at a later date!) Here's the Album version of "Beginnings!"
