Believe it or not, today's “Great Song of the '70s” was the biggest commercial hit of Neil Sedaka's career—beating all of his “Great Songs of the '60s!” But he needed a little friendly help from another legendary hit maker to do it.
In 1975, Neil was in the middle of a comeback for the ages. He had hits with “Laughter in the Rain,” “The Immigrant,” and even a slow remake of “Breaking Up is hard to Do!” During this time, he also wrote “Love Will Keep Us Together” for the Captain and Tennille!
Neil was riding high for sure, and even though the title of today's “Great Song of the '70s” is “Bad Blood,” he obviously had some “Good Blood” with Elton John...because Elton not only sang backup, he did it as a favor--without being credited! Of course, everybody KNEW it was Elton, so it wasn't like he was anonymous.
Anyway, the song went to #1 in both the US and Canada—and much later, it was featured on an episode of “That '70s Show.”
Bad Blood: a “Great Song of the '70s” from Neil Sedaka (with help from Elton John).
