Any music fan who was around in 1976 knows that Peter Frampton was ALIVE!
On January 6th, he released his epic double album, "Frampton Comes Alive," and by April 10th, it had reached #1 on Billboard's Album Chart, where it stayed for TEN weeks! In total, the album spent 97 straight weeks on the chart, and sold more than 8 MILLION copies in the US alone!
It's currently ranked at #41 on Rolling Stone Magazine's list of the "50 Greatest Live Albums of All Time."
Of course, Peter scored 3 hit singles from the album---all of which can be considered "Great Songs of the '70s!
Today, we'll highlight the first of the bunch: "Baby, I Love Your Way."
The song was originally released on Peter's 1975 studio album "Frampton," but received little attention. However, when the "Alive" version was released in '76, radio stations all over the world were quick to jump on it. It eventually made it to #3 on Canada, #5 in Brazil, and #12 in the US, just to name a few countries.
Keep in mind that single sales were brisk...even though album sales were in the millions! No small feat.
In the future, we'll be highlighting some of the other hits from "Frampton Comes Alive," but today, we're giving "Baby, I Love Your Way" the attention it deserves as a "Great Song of 1976!"
**Note: In 1994, the American reggae band, Big Mountain, covered the song for the film "Reality Bites," and their excellent version REALLY took off: Top 10 in 18 countries, including #1 in Denmark, Spain, Sweden, and Billboard's Mainstream Rock chart in the US. In Canada, it peaked at #2! (Check the link below!)
