One weekend in 1963, while Sam Cooke was in England for a concert tour, he found himself staying in a hotel where female guests were not allowed.
Bored out of his mind, he sat down and wrote a song that described the situation and how he felt about it. "Another Saturday Night" became a classic...and a "Great Song of the '60s, reaching #1 on Billboard's Soul Chart and #10 on the Hot 100. Eleven years later, Cat Stevens released a cover version with, of all things, a mariachi beat that topped the original and became a "Great Song of 1974!" Cat's version made it to #6 on Billboard's Hot 100 and #13 on the Easy Listening Chart. Not bad, but in Canada, it went to #1 TWICE: On September 28th for one week, and again on October 19th. That sort of thing is pretty rare, and a testament to how much people loved the song! "Another Saturday Night:" a "Great Song of the '60s" by Sam Cooke, remade into a "Great Song of the '70s" by Cat Stevens! Cat:
