Anne Murray's Hat Trick (1979) 9/4/20

There are 3 songs highlighted today, with a link to each one. Be sure to click them all!

In looking over the year 1979 for a “Great Song” to highlight, I noticed one artist who REALLY stood out: Anne Murray!

Anne had hits in almost every year of the '70s, but in 1979, she pulled off something pretty amazing: THREE #1 songs in both the US AND Canada (her home country)!

First came “I Just Fall in Love Again,” a song that neither the Carpenters or Dusty Springfield could make a hit, but Anne took it to #1 in the US on the Adult Contemporary and Country Charts, and the matching Canadian charts (as well as Canada's Top 40)!

Then it was “Shadows in the Moonlight,” #1 on the Adult Contemporary and Country Charts in both countries!

And then, to complete the “Great Song” hat trick (note the obligatory Canadian hockey reference), Anne finished the year with “Broken Hearted Me,” a song originally recorded by England Dan & John Ford Coley—that she ALSO took to #1 on the US and Canadian Adult Contemporary and Country Charts.”

Anne Murray had a GREAT decade, but in 1979, she was simply fantastic, with THREE “Great Songs of the '70s!”

“I Just Fall in Love Again:”

“Shadows in the Moonlight:”

“Broken Hearted Me:”
