Today's "Great Song of the '70s" is a bit obscure, but part of my intention with this series is to throw a spotlight on great songs you may not have heard or remembered.
The title song from Neil Young's 1970 album "After the Goldrush" became one of his signature tunes, but it never charted for him. Over the years, a handful of other artists have recorded the song, including "The Trio:" Dolly Parton, Linda Ronstadt and Emmy Lou Harris--and THEY didn't chart with it either. Recently, Dolly sang it with Maren Morris and Miley Cyrus at the 2019 Grammys.
There was, however, one cover version, that charted at #22 in 1974, when the group Prelude recorded and released an a cappella version. We played it back then at WOHO and I thought it was hauntingly beautiful. See what you think:
